The idea of this pencil is sustainable because the materials with which it is manufactured are economical and recyclable, it is also able to transform itself into a plant or vegetable after providing a service, thus contributing to the ecology of the planet. The pencil is manufactured without waste that can harm the environment, through materials that we have at home can be manufactured and when the pencil is too short to write or color, it is simply put in a pot with earth (plant) with the tip with which you write above and it will become herbs, vegetables or flowers.
In Mexico there is a new problem of felling trees, thousands of forest areas are devastated every year and this figure is increasing, only in the State of Mexico are more than 500 thousand trees felled, which brings short and long term problems.
Deforestation breaks the climate balance, which represents a threat to climate change, including the waste we generate when we dispose of each of the pencils we stop using.
That is why this project is based on environmental conservation; trying to raise awareness to change our bad practice, motivating and encouraging that after the use of the pencil we can generate life instead of garbage.
Benefits of paper recycling
The environmental benefits of paper recycling are many:
It reduces greenhouse gas emissions that can contribute to climate change by avoiding methane emissions and reducing the energy needed for a number of paper products.
Extends fiber supply and contributes to carbon retention.
Considerable saving of landfill space.
Reduces energy and water consumption.
It reduces the need for disposal (i.e. landfill or incineration, which decreases the amount of CO2 that is produced.
On the other hand, when trees are planted for papermaking, carbon is released, usually in the form of carbon dioxide. When the carbon absorption rate exceeds the release rate, carbon is said to be “sequestered.” This carbon sequestration reduces greenhouse gas concentrations by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
The objective of this project is to turn the “use and throw away” culture into one that can recycle and reuse most of its consumption, creating awareness that there are more ecological ways
to create or convert items by reducing, reusing, reforming and recycling.
This project will teach everyone to recycle materials such as sheets of newspapers, magazines, notebooks, so that these materials are not wasted and reusable, creating an alternative that replaces conventional pencils including the same functions and increasing at the end a seed that will sprout at the time of planting generating a plant.
If we manage to make the pencil from recycled materials then this would be an alternative to replace the common pencils and reduce the felling of trees causing in the people a positive change of life focused on conserving our environment.
MATERIALS
1.-Newspaper
2.-Glue
3.-Brush
4.-Cutter
5.-Scissors
6.-Graphite Mines
7.-Seeds
8.-Sharpener
Process
Cut strips of newspaper, longer than the mines, apply with the brush a little glue evenly, place the mine, and start to roll, on each turn apply a little glue, after 15 turns end applying glue and Cut the paper. Enter the pencil in the paste for 4 hours and after this time take it out and put it to dry. The next day, use the cutter to match, on the bottom, sharpen it with a pencil sharpener and insert the seeds from the top and apply some paper with paste to cover. And ready you can use it to write and when it is small, you can sow it in a pot with soil and you can enjoy a rich organic salad.
The pencils we make have a high probability of germination success since each pencil contains several seeds. Once the pencil is finished it is advisable to put the pot in which we put it in a place where it has an abundant light.
Our proposal is to make a pencil based on dried leaves of trees to publicize the culture of recycling.
Ecological pencils that exist commercially are made with wood, they contain a seed inside them when their useful life ends can be planted.
It is easy to prepare and the cost of the materials of which this fact does not have a high cost, can also be used as a learning method about the culture of recycling.
